Vision Become Reality: 2:00 @ Amnesia!

Friends and Family was founded eleven years ago on two main ideas: 1) That a vibrant, effective and meaningful community of artists and freaks could be built around the practice of throwing underground, not-for-profit, participatory art and dance events; and 2) That the experiential environments created at these events were fundamentally positive: creative, celebratory, transformational spaces where we could truly be ourselves, together.

Along the way since then, in warehouses, at campouts, monthlies, weeklies, and the spaces in between, quite a tribe developed, adopting, as an emblem of its Psyche, the FnF Gearhead (you see, above, peeking mischievously over the playa). Smiley guy evokes the values we hold dear: It is smiling and positive; solar and radiant; unashamed in its innocence; confident in technology put to good and human use. And it is just a bit askew, its smile a tad crooked, its eyes a bit large, relishing, celebrating our natural right to freedom of mind, exercised responsibly.

This year, for the first time, Friends and Family hits the Playa, fully intent on manifesting our vision fresh and anew, fully intent on flexing the FnF Psyche with a comfortable camp of committed contributors; monstrous beats on a sick sound system; rich and resonant imagery; flowing, flowering photons; and lots of Gearhead-inspired art from you, me, us.
